Amazon Just Made Tablet Computing a Two Horse Race
As a consumer, I love Amazon. They are already the source of most of my e-commerce purchases (of which there are a disturbingly large number) as well as my books and movie purchases. I read their books on my Kindle, my iPhone, and my iPad. I watch movies rented from Amazon via my Tivo. I keep my Amazon Prime membership because of the benefits including free 2 day shipping which saves my bacon on many gift giving occasions.
Today Amazon announced the Kindle Fire, an Android-based tablet computer that is meant to compete with the iPad. You can read more about the details here or here or even order one here.
In a nutshell, this is their first full media consumption device. With their dominance in e-commerce, their deft moves to create a solid media distribution network, the built in cloud storage, and more, the Kindle Fire is going to be BIG.
In my opinion tablet computing for consumers just became a two horse race...
